Hi, Bonjour, My name is Jason Riley and I am running for Cornwall City Council.  I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the voters or Cornwall and discuss a couple key elements from my Campaign Platform.

Firstly, I am a lifelong resident of Cornwall.  I am a husband, father, and grandfather.  I graduated St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School, and St Lawrence College here in Cornwall.

I started my professional career working for a local computer store where I worked in the service department helping businesses and individuals with their tech related issues.  From there I moved to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino where I worked in the IT department for four years.  I have spent that last 15 years working for a software brand at IBM where I manage some of our largest clients.

I was raised with a sense of community and giving back.  My parents taught me how valuable and rewarding volunteering can be.  I have been volunteering in Cornwall since I was a child for a variety of non-profits and youth sports organizations.  Most recently I have spent the last 5 years serving on the board of directors of the Seaway Valley Soccer Club.

Now let’s get into a couple elements of my campaign platform.

Balanced Budgets

The City of Cornwall is 52 million dollars in debt.  We need to stop spending more money than we take in, and raising taxes is NOT the answer.  Over the past 5 years the City of Cornwall has raised property taxes on average 3.1% EACH YEAR.  We as a city need to stop over spending and passing the burden on to the tax payers.  At Budget time we need to make the tough decisions that will allow us to be fiscally responsible.

Economic Development

The City of Cornwall has not really grown in recent memory.  We need to do more to attract and retain talented individuals and create a city where our residents love to live, work and be part of our diverse community.  This will allow us to increase our tax base and increase the city’s revenue.  We also need to do a better job of identifying new revenue streams for the City of Cornwall.

Cornwall City Council requires people to solve problems, big complex problems.  I have built my career on being an excellent problem solver.  The city needs more problem solvers.

If you would like to find out more about me or read my full campaign platform go to my website votejasonriley.ca.  I will have a lot more information including other ideas on how we help move the city forward.

I am Jason Riley, and I am running for Cornwall City Cornwall.  Thank You, Merci,
